Founded in 2023 by Dr. Jenna Supp-Montgomerie (Associate Professor of Communications Studies and Religious Studies), the History of Technology Lab is a space in which students, faculty, and researchers across the University can play and create with old media. With generous funding from an Innovations in Teaching with Technology Award, the Religious Studies Department, and the Communication Studies Department, the HOTLab has acquired an impressive set of media holdings, ranging in manufacturing dates from 1925 to 2010.

The HOTlab's holdings include print, audio, and visual technologies, hardware, software, word processing machines, and much more. Come check out our 1925 Model 78 B Mimeograph machine from the AB Dick Company, load up our Apple iie computer to play a game of Frogger, or try your hand at typing on one of our many typewriters. The HOTLab also features old media used for mathematical and engineering processes, such as the Galton Board, used to demonstrate the central limit theorem. Explore our Catalog to learn about more of our holdings!
